GRAND RONDE, Ore. -- Two people were injured after a Jeep went off of Highway 22 and into a creek near Grand Ronde Friday, police said.
The Jeep slid on a patch of ice and spun around before falling down a 30-foot embankment, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police. The car came to a rest in three feet of water in Casper Creek.
Two people and a dog were in the Jeep at the time.
"A Polk County inmate work crew witnessed the crash," Hastings said. "Inmates and supervising sheriff personnel went down the embankment and checked on the two occupants but couldn’t remove them or their dog."
Fire crews removed 57-year-old Gertrude Dickey and her brother, 67-year-old Monty Dickey, both of Willamina, from the car and brought them up to the roadway. The former was taken by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center the latter was flown to Salem Hospital.
Neither suffered life-threatening injuries. The dog was not hurt.
The roadway was closed about one mile west of Highway 18 while crews pulled the occupants from the vehicle.
