GOVERNMANT CAMP - Trillium Lake campground sites were blanketed in snow Wednesday despite a plan to open the campground for the season on Friday morning.
The good news for drivers heading up to the mountain is that the roads are actually in pretty good shape. ODOT officials said the pavement was still retaining heat from the warm weather earlier in the month.
"With all the early spring high temperatures we had, the ground temps have actually raised up quite a bit from what they typically are this time of year so a lot of the snowfall, even through the night, never even froze," spokesman Will Ewing said.
Unseasonably cool temperatures along with more moisture was expected to continue Thursday and into Friday, but KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino said a drier and warmer spell was expected starting Memorial Day Weekend.
