PORTLAND – A group of people held down a suspected carjacker behind an Elmer’s restaurant in Southeast Portland Sunday morning.

It all started when the suspect, who police have not named, reportedly stole a car then carjacked another in Clackamas County. He then took Interstate 205 into Southeast Portland where he hit two other vehicles while exiting the freeway, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

The suspect got out of the car at the Elmer’s at 9660 Southeast Stark Street, pulled out a knife, and threatened a man in the parking lot, Simpson said.

The man the suspect threatened then pulled out a gun, so the suspect dropped his knife and took off.

That’s when a group of people chased the suspect down and held him for police.
