PORTLAND -- A police bomb squad blew up a suspicious device spotted in a VW bug along a busy Southeast Portland street Thursday.
Witnesses reported seeing a box with exposed wires inside the VW parked near the intersection of SE 25th Avenue and Belmont. A bomb squad was called to the scene and decided to bring in a specialized robot to deal with it.
The robot, operated by a police officer, retrieved the suspicious box from the car and blew it up.
Several streets were blocked off during the investigation.
Police have not said if the box did in fact contain a bomb.
