BATTLE GROUND, Wash. -- Setting off fireworks has been a heated debate in Vancouver, but in nearby Battle Ground, people are getting ready to celebrate the New Year with a bang.

The fireworks stand run by the city's Chamber of Commerce is now open on the corner of Southwest 12th and Main Street.

Even though other parts of the country have banned fireworks on New Year’s Eve, people in Battle Ground will have a seven-hour window to legally set them off.

"Basically this is a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce. We pay for our programs like our visitors center. We're not funded by the county or the city like the other visitors centers around the state,” said Mike Harden with the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.

The stand expects to make between $3,000 and $4,000 from the fireworks sales.
