PORTLAND  -- Portland police detectives arrested 56-year-old Frederick A. Richey Thursday for a deadly stabbing back in 1984.

Richey is accused of murdering 28-year old Francis Marie Waites at her home at 5258 NE 24th Avenue on March 23, 1984.

Retired detectives started reviewing the case in 2008 and a year later the case went to active detective when the Oregon State Police crime lab found DNA evidence.

Richey was scheduled to appear in court Friday. He was arrested in Gresham with the help of U.S. Marshals.

Anyone with information about this case was asked to call Detective Jeanne Stephenson at (503) 823-0865 or Detective Jim Lawrence at (503) 823-0867.
