VANCOUVER -- A man with a shotgun went into a mental health clinic along Northeast 28th Avenue in Vancouver Monday and ordered everyone to leave the building, according to police.

A SWAT team responded and took the man into custody. Sgt. Duncan Hoss said no shots were fired and nobody was hurt.

The 40-year-old Vancouver-area man told a doctor who remained to talk with him that he intended for police to kill him. Hoss said the doctor left and negotiators talked the man into surrendering.

Hoss said the man was a former patient at the clinic.

The clinic is located at 14508 NE 28th Avenue, near Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, but the incident was not connected to the hospital, authorities said.
