PORTLAND -- Ridership on the Amtrak Cascades has risen 17 percent from a year ago.
There have been 398,000 people who have stepped on board this year, according Vickie Sheehan of the Washington Department of Transportation.
Part of the rise can be attributed to the 2010 Olympics Games in Vancouver B.c., where service was added in August of 2009, she said, but record growth continued into the spring months and through June.
Amtrak Cascades runs four round-trips daily between Portland and Seattle, in addition to daily service that originates in Eugene that continues to Seattle.
