CORVALLIS – A suspect in the shooting of two police officers in Benton County was indicted on charges Monday.
Oregon State Police said 32-year-old Demecio Cardenas faced two counts of attempted aggravated murder, assault, weapons and trying to elude charges.
Cardenas remained in the hospital recovering from injuries. A corrections spokesman in Los Angeles says Cardenas has served three terms since 2003 for stealing cars and broke parole four months after the last one ended, in August 2010.
He was also convicted in 2007 in a spouse abuse case.
Two officers were wounded earlier this month after chasing a stolen car.
One remains in the hospital — 29-year-old Sgt. David Peterson of the Benton County sheriff's office. His condition report has been changed from serious to fair.
