WOODBURN, Ore. -- All adult charges were dropped Monday in connection with an arson at Woodburn High School in May, but the suspects admitted to the juvenile charges.

All students and staff were evacuated from the school during the 4-alarm fire May 11, which started when hand sanitizer was ignited on a desktop.

The school was closed for a week to repair the damage, but no injuries were reported.

Each of the three suspects, students who were 15 years old when the fire happened, had been charged as adults under Oregon’s Measure 11 guidelines with arson, reckless burning and reckless endangering.

They pleaded guilty Monday to one count of attempted arson and five counts of reckless endangering. Sentencing was scheduled for next Monday at 8:30 a.m.
