KEIZER, Ore. -- A Brink's armored car employee was robbed at gunpoint while he was servicing an ATM Tuesday afternoon in Keizer.

A Brinks truck pulled up to a closed IGA grocery store on River Road North around 2 p.m. to service the ATM. When one employee went into the building, he was confronted by a man with a gun.

The guard managed to shut himself into a secured area behind the ATM, while another guard in the Brink's truck called 911.

Local and state police and federal agents surrounded the shopping center and shut down the 5000 block of River Road, according to Capt. Jeff Kuhns with the Keizer Police Department.

A SWAT team searched the vacant IGA store, which houses the ATM, for the suspect. Other officers surrounded the entire building, Kuhns said.

Viewer Mike Noeske sent in this video of the scene

"Officers had a lot of long guns out and it was a very dangerous and unknown situation for about an hour and a half," Kuhns said.

The suspect was never found and the crime scene was eventually cleared. The Brinks worker and his fellow driver were both doing fine, Kuhns said.

Workers at other businesses in the shopping center on River Road were asked to lock their doors and "shelter in place" while police searched for the suspect.

McNary High School was put into lockdown as a precaution, because it’s located near the shopping center.  Principal John Honey posted a message on the district website that alerted parents and assured them the doors would remain locked until the regular release time.

Just after 3:30 p.m., police said the standoff was over and River Road was reopened. They had not yet found the suspect Tuesday night.
