VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A 90-year-old woman was able to escape her Vancouver home after fireplace sparks started a fire Sunday.

The Columbian newspaper reported the woman had lit a fire at her home on N.E. 38th Street when the sparks ignited a cardboard box nearby.

The woman got out and called 9-1-1 from a neighbor's home. Crews were able to put the blaze out in minutes, but told the Columbian the home was a total loss.
