MADRAS, Ore. (AP) — A Madras woman had 117 cats removed from her home this week.
Bend television station KTVZ reports that more than 150 cats were inside the place, but up to 40 had to stay because of a lack of space at local rescue shelters.
Karen Szymanski of the Humane Society of Central Oregon says there were cats in every corner of the house, even cupboards.
Officials declined to identify the Madras woman. She has nonprofit status to care for rescued cats, but became overwhelmed. Because of her cooperation, she is unlikely to face charges.
The woman will be allowed to keep 10-15 as house cats, but officials plan to monitor the home.
