PORTLAND, Ore. -- A line formed around the block on Christmas day at the Union Gospel Mission for homeless looking for a meal.
The annual traditional Christmas meal was served at 10 a.m. Homeless guests enjoyed ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, fruit cocktail and pumpkin pie served by over 100 volunteers. Volunteers also sang Christmas carols.
At the end of the meal at 2:00 pm, Union Gospel Mission had served 760 meals.
In addition to meals, guests received gift bags containing warm weather items, such as hats, scarves, socks, and blanket. Each bag also contained a snack pack with a homemade cookie. Union Gospel Mission distributed 500 gift bags at the event.
