PORTLAND, Ore. - Vandals splattered paint on the sculpture on the East Bank Esplanade of former Mayor Vera Katz sometime last weekend.
Public Art Collections Registrar Keith Lachowicz said it was not the first time the bronze statue had been tagged.
He expected that after an initial cleanup, at least two more treatments would be needed to remove the red paint completely.
This sculpture is very popular, as Portlanders and visitors enjoy posing for pictures next to the statue, and usually someone puts a wool hat on her head when it snows.
Portland Parks and Recreation and the Portland Police Department so far had no word on any suspects.
