PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The state says more plastic bottles and other containers are being recycled in Oregon, and one reason is roll carts.

Roll carts are used for curbside recycling and commingle everything but glass. The state says their use is becoming more widespread.

In an annual report on recycling of rigid plastic containers, the state says the recycling rate for plastic bottles, jars, cups, tubs, pails, clamshells and other containers rose by more than two percentage points between 2006 and 2007, going from 27.8 percent to 30.1 percent.

The figures for 2008 aren't yet available, but Department of Environmental Quality officials say they expect the rate to increase again because Portland and some other cities adopted roll carts last year.
