GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- Protesters say about a dozen people have been arrested so far at a blockade erected to stop logging on the Elliott State Forest outside Reedsport.
Jasmine Zimmer-Stucky of the group Cascadia Rising Tide said Wednesday that a police van carrying the people went by her position about two miles from the protest site.
There was no immediate word from state police or Douglas County sheriff's deputies.
The blockade was erected Monday on a logging road leading to a timber sale on the Elliott.
Protesters say they are trying to protect native forests that store carbon that would otherwise contribute to global warming.
Zimmer-Stucky says they will give up their blockade if the timber buyer sells it back to the state.
