VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Three children traveling through a crosswalk Thursday morning were struck by a driver who did not see them, according to Vancouver police.
The driver, 68-year-old Leonard Leger, told police that he did not see the children because another car was turning in front of him, according to Vancouver Police spokesperson Kim Kapp.
Two of the children were riding bicycles without helmets and the third was walking with them. They were between the ages of 10 and 11 and the accident happened just after 8 a.m., near the intersection of 136th Avenue and McGillivray.
All three were transported to SW Washington Medical Center as a precaution; however, Kapp said none of them appeared to be seriously injured.
Leger was at fault for failing to yield to pedestrians or bicycles in a crosswalk, Kapp said, but he was not cited. She said he was visibly shaken after the accident and the officer did not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
