GRESHAM -- Three children reported missing after their grandmother failed to return them to their home Sunday afternoon were found Monday morning after police pulled over her car at NE 162nd and Glisan.

Their grandmother may have had mental health issues, according to Gresham police.

The three kids had been last seen with the children's grandmother at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, at her house near NE 77th and Halsey in Portland. They were expected home by early evening and their mother called police around 10 p.m. to report them missing.

She reportedly talks to herself frequently using religious phrases and may be having mental health issues, according to police and the children's mother, Carly Cameron. The grandmother had no cell phone to stay in contact.

Carly Cameron said her mother had never done this with the children before. Carly said she had noticed that her mother had progressively growing mental health issues, including talking to herself, and had become more possessive of the children.

Witness John Stursa told KGW he had seen the story on the news and had made a point to memorize the car description and license plate before heading to work. He then spotted the car near NE 141st and Sandy at around 6:30 a.m. and called 911, staying on the phone until officers pulled behind the car.

The three children, ages 2, 6 and 11, were safe after Portland police pulled the car over. The girl waved up at Sky8 over the scene, as did officers who provided them with stuffed animals.

Carly Cameron was being interviewed live as the car was pulled over with her children inside, and she watched a monitor of a Sky8 shot as police spoke with her mother, with her children visible through the rear window.

"I see them. I see them." she said. "I can see my daughter's jacket."

The grandmother went to the Gresham police station but declined to speak to investigators. She will not be charged for any crime. She had permission to be with the children, police said.
