SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The man who was shot while attempting to break into a Salem-area home is reported in serious condition at Salem Hospital and is expected to recover.

The Marion County sheriff's office says 36-year-old Edgar Eduardo Garcia-Bonilla of Keizer will be charged with burglary and criminal trespassing.

He was shot Tuesday morning by 82-year-old John Rose who lives at the home with his 83-year-old wife Mamie.

The Statesman Journal reports Rose is a former police officer and owner of the Academy of Legal Investigators, a school for private investigators in Salem.
