SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a Springfield man was seriously injured when the paraglider he was operating lost power after taking off and crashed to the ground at Santiam Pass.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/12Hptxm) that 55-year-old James M. Carter had just lifted off and was at tree level about 100 feet up Sunday morning when he lost power and crashed near a state transportation compound.

St. Charles Medical Center in Bend reported him in critical condition on Monday morning.
