COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — Rangers plan to remove about half of the 25 pay tubes at federal park sites along the Oregon coast.

The tubes are used to collect day-use fees at sites in the Siuslaw National Forest and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, but they are being vandalized by thieves.

Deputy District Ranger Carl Bauer told the Reedsport-Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce last week that vandals with cutting torches have been helping themselves to the pay tubes. He says the easy targets will likely be removed. Tubes will likely remain at sites with camp hosts.

The World reports (http://bit.ly/YYxykz) if pay tubes are removed, visitors would still need to pay the fee at another location or buy a pass for Oregon parks.
