Rice Hill, Ore. – Two people were injured after a dump truck crashed on Interstate 5 approaching the Rice Hill interchange Saturday morning, police said.

At 10:15 a.m., the dump truck pulling a trailer loaded with a backhoe drove off the shoulder and hit a tree, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

The truck was driven by 30-year-old Alan Iverson from Kelso Wash. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Hastings said.

Passenger Douglas White,61, from North Bend, was taken in a helicopter to the hospital with more serious injuries, Hastings said.

Several gallons of diesel fuel spilled across northbound lanes, which were closed for more than an hour while crews cleaned up.
