PORTLAND -- Two men installing gutters Tuesday on a Northwest Portland apartment building contacted a power line and severely burned themselves, falling to the ground.
Portland Fire Bureau officials said both men suffered life threatening injuries at the property on Northwest 24th and Quimby and were taken to Emanuel Hospital.
The men were identified as Louis Avila, 34, who was listed in critical condition, and Jacob Stricker, 28, listed in serious condition at the hospital's Oregon Burn Center.
Both men work for the Great Northwest Gutter Company, according to fire officials. OSHA has begun an investigation into the incident.
"This tragic accident is a reminder to be aware of your surroundings," said Public Information Officer Paul Corah, in a press release. "When working on ladders or above ground, make sure you check for overhead power lines before starting work. Electrical shocks can be deadly."
