PORTLAND – Three Portland Police officers were hurt while searching for two gang suspects who had fled during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
Police said the incident began just before 1 a.m. when the officers tried to pull over two people in a car on NE 33rd and Sandy. The driver didn’t stop and ended up crashing several blocks away.
Then, the suspects fled on foot.
Two officers searching for the suspects with K-9s were injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Detective Mary Wheat with the Portland Police Bureau said one officer broke his leg and the second had minor injuries. No details were released about exactly how they were hurt.
The third officer sustained minor injuries during a struggle with one of the suspects, Wheat said.
Both suspects were eventually captured. Wheat said Ramone Harris and Reginald Davis, both 27, faced several charges including possession of a loaded firearm, possession of cocaine, attempt to elude, interfering with a police office and assaulting an officer.
Police said they recovered two guns that were thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit and an ounce of crack cocaine from inside the vehicle.
