MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Two men accused of a vigilante attack on a man suspected of molesting two girls avoided jail time by pleading guilty Wednesday in Medford to assault charges.

The two, 20-year-old Christopher Garrett and 19-year-old Moses LaPorte, were sentenced to probation under a plea agreement.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/Ziub1X ) they beat 23-year-old Mark Alexander Tabor in retaliation for alleged sexual assaults last August on two teenage sisters.

Judge Benjamin Bloom told the men the system may not work as fast as they would like, but they can't resort to vigilante justice.

Tabor remains in the Jackson County Jail facing sex abuse charges.
