EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A suspect in the wounding of a Springfield man in 2011 has been returned to Oregon to face attempted murder and other charges.
Police say 26-year-old David Robert Friend Jr. escaped to California and was living in Riverside County until he was arrested in December.
The Eugene Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/ZI4Iky ) reports Friend's younger brother, Nickolas, is serving 6½ years after pleading guilty to burglary, assault and failure to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors say the brothers suspected the Springfield man of assaulting a 12-year-old acquaintance, so they broke into his house and beat him with a pipe. Later, the prosecution said, David Friend shot the man in the shoulder. The man recovered.
The elder friend was returned to Eugene on Thursday, when he appeared in court to plead not guilty.
