GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A 71-year-old Grants Pass man has died in a boating accident while fishing on the Rogue River.

The Josephine County sheriff's office says Geoffrey Lee Wood was dead when he was pulled from the water Monday.

The Grants Pass Daily Courier (http://bit.ly/11T4v34) reports Wood was on an outing with the Middle Rogue Steelheaders when the drift boat he was in got stuck in a fallen tree at a bend in the river upstream of Robertson Bridge and was swamped.

Wood's friend, Bill Hickey, says two others in Wood's boat held on to the tree, but Wood floated downstream.

Hickey says Wood had a gash on his chin, and had not inflated his life jacket.
