HERMISTON, Ore. (AP) — A seed corn operation in Eastern Oregon has announced a $30 million expansion.
The Hermiston operation of DuPont Pioneer opened in 2009. An executive tells the East Oregonian (http://bit.ly/Xay1ZG) the expansion was planned but is coming sooner than expected.
The expansion is expected to double the production capacity of the current facility and produce 18 full-time jobs by September 2014. It now employs 34. The company expects more research on drought tolerance to come out of the expanded facility.
Construction workers began flattening the ground this week for a receiving, husking, sorting and drying facility to be completed this year. The corporation will also expand its seed storage facilities by the end of 2013 and plans to build two large dryer pads by 2014.
