RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — A 41-year-old Umatilla, Ore., man has received a three-month jail sentence in Washington state for shooting another man in the chest.
The Tri-City Herald reports (http://is.gd/pJbBWi ) that Edgar Martinez pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree assault in Franklin County Superior Court.
Deputy Prosecutor Frank Jenny says the charge was reduced from first-degree assault in the plea deal partly because the 29-year-old victim, Israel Garcia, refuses to talk to police or prosecutors.
Garcia was shot in the chest while sitting in his car on March 31, 2011.
