WHITE CITY, Ore. (AP) — White City will remain a city in name only.

Returns from Tuesday's election show voters in Jackson County's largest unincorporated community overwhelmingly rejecting a proposal to make White City an actual city.

The measure called for property owners within the proposed boundaries to pay a tax of $1.45 per $1,000 of property value. That's an annual cost of $145 for the owner of a home assessed at $100,000.

Opponent Curt Sather told the Mail Tribune newspaper (http://is.gd/4dTYPI) that most urban services are already available, so people didn't see a need to spend money to create a city.
