BEND, Ore. (AP) — A La Pine couple will get their Labradoodles back after the Deschutes County Dog Board determined they were not responsible for the dogs' attack on a chicken.
The board ruled Wednesday that the dogs found eating the dead bird last weekend were probably let out of their fenced yard by someone other than owners Lisa and Jeff Penter.
The Penters said they discovered the dogs missing the morning after coming home late from a ZZ Top concert.
State law sets strict penalties for dogs that kill livestock due to the negligence of their owners. First-time offenders must be adopted out, relocated or put down.
Lisa Penter told The Bulletin newspaper (http://is.gd/42JQbZ ) she plans to get a lock for her gate. Her husband says they'll pay for the chicken
