PORT ORFORD, Ore. (AP) — The chief and at least six firefighters have resigned from the Port Orford fire department.

That's about one-third of the volunteers in the Port Orford Rural Fire District.

The World reports (http://is.gd/wVPpc0 ) Chief Gayle Wilcox led the exodus, citing two years of frustration with the board. She read a letter at a Thursday night meeting saying they had been harassed, belittled, and micromanaged.

Board Chairwoman Kim Stang, says an interim chief would be installed and Port Orford could rely on assistance from fire departments in Langlois and Sixes.
