PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — The Umatilla County district attorney says prosecutors have been unable to reach a plea deal with a man accused of committing a murder near Milton-Freewater.
Dan Primus told the East Oregonian (http://is.gd/0hUFDb ) that prosecutors recently met with the George Craigen's lawyer for the third time in a week and couldn't come to an agreement.
The district attorney declined to reveal the state's offer.
The 50-year-old Craigen is charged with murdering Cecil Carter in late December at his plumbing business outside Milton-Freewater.
His next court date is Sept. 21, when Judge Eva Temple will hear a motion to suppress statements Craigen made to police in Washington following his January arrest.
