LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) — Three residents of a La Grande retirement center received a ride of a lifetime. Each got a flight over the Grande Ronde Valley in a World War II-era biplane.
The flight was provided by pilot Darryl Fisher of Ageless Aviation Dreams, a nonprofit that provides biplane flights for seniors throughout the Northwest.
Sharon Jensen told The Observer newspaper of La Grande (http://is.gd/5p4Zgq ) that the flight was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity she had to take.
Another senior, 89-year-old Lorree Leonard, says Fisher's kindness was the best part, especially when he carried her off the plane after the flight.
Fisher has provided more than 70 flights to seniors in the past year. Nervous passengers can get him to land early with a simple thumbs-down gesture.
He has yet to receive one.
