PORTLAND -- Sixteen stolen bicycles and several boxes of parts were recovered from a Portland hotel room after a man was evicted Thursday morning, police said.
The stolen property was found inside the Biltmore Hotel, at 310 NW 6th Avenue, according to Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
"Officers identified 16 bicycles that were suspected stolen and seized all the bicycles, frames, and boxes of parts," Simpson said. "While processing the evidence, the evicted man returned to the hotel and was arrested without incident."
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Steven Sherman. He was jailed on charges of theft and methamphetamine possession.
Investigators were working to return the property to the owners and have posted the serial numbers online here. Two bicycles were already returned by Thursday afternoon.
"In one of these cases, the owner did not have the serial number to her bicycle but did make a police report and posted photos on the website, which assisted officers in tracking her down," Simpson said.
