PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — One of the best-known political couples in Oregon say they are getting a divorce.
The Oregonian reports that Democratic U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader and his wife, former state Sen. Martha Schrader, cited "irreconcilable differences" in a brief filing in Clackamas County.
The Schraders were married in 1975 and have four adult children. They did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
The newspaper said they spent much of their time apart since Kurt Schrader was elected to represent the Fifth District in 2008.
Martha Schrader was appointed Clackamas County commissioner in 2003 and was re-elected twice. She was appointed to her husband's state senate seat after he was elected to Congress. She lost a close Senate race last fall.
