ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon woman has been charged with animal neglect after Albany police found a starving dog unable to walk.

Police arrested 26-year-old Erica Michelle Olsen of Albany on Thursday after finding the severely malnourished 5-year-old English mastiff in her back yard with no food or fresh water.

A police spokesman said the dog, named Hank, weighed 65 pounds — nearly 100 pounds under his recommended weight.

The dog was taken to Albany Animal Hospital, where an examination concluded he did not suffer from any disease or parasites that might account for his low weight.

Police said the dog's health is improving and he will be turned over to the Safe Haven Humane Society of Linn County.
