VANCOUVER – A few dozen people left Clark County Thursday morning on a 100-mile walk to support to support marriage equality, a day after Washington lawmakers passed a bill that would allow gay couples to marry.

The march had been planned since last summer. Originally the interfaith march was intended to reach out to lawmakers for their support. Because the bill passed, the march turned into a celebration.

Members of the group met at the Vancouver First United Methodist Church Thursday morning to begin the 100-mile march to Olympia.

A core group will walk the entire distance along the I-5 corridor. Along the way people will join and walk shorter distances.

The plan was to make it to La Center Thursday and then start marching again Friday morning. They hoped to travel about 15 miles each day.

Routes: Day 1  Day 2  Day 3  Day 4  Day 5   Day 6  Day 7

Once the group gets to Olympia they plan to meet with other interfaith organizations and state lawmakers to continue the celebration. Washington is expected next week to become the 7th state in the nation to allow same sex marriage. Once the bill is signed by Governor Christine Gregoire it will take effect in 90 days.
