PORTLAND -- A teenager was killed in a shooting in Northeast Portland Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The shooting was reported just after 2 p.m. at the Valero gas station on Northeast Killingsworth near 57th Avenue, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau. The victim is identified as 18-year-old Edward Jewell Paden Jr.
Arriving officers found Paden in the parking lot and medical responders determined he had died.
Witnesses said they heard an argument followed by anywhere between three to six gunshots.
"I was nervous and went back in the house," said Desiree Johnson.
"It was certainly a bold incident on a well-traveled street. People in this neighborhood are very concerned about what happened," said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
Investigators said they think the shooting appears to be gang-related.
Anyone who left the scene before talking to police was encouraged to call the non-emergency line at (503) 823-3333.
