TROUTDALE -- A woman who jumped into the Sandy River Wednesday morning was pulled out by a Multnomah County sheriff's deputy.

Police were dispatched about 9:20 a.m. to reports of a woman who had jumped into the river near the Tippy Canoe restaurant after jumping out of a car.

Troutdale police and the Gresham Fire Department responded to the scene along with the sheriff's deputies.

Sgt. Greg Lange knew he was downstream of where the woman had jumped in. He drove to Glenn Otto City Park and ran down to the riverbank. He spotted the woman floating towards him, waded out and grabbed her.

The woman, 57, was cold and confused otherwise in good health. He walked the woman up the riverbank where emergency responders treated her. She was taken to a local hospital.
