King City mother worries as son flees Northern California wildfires

King city woman worries about family in California

KING CITY, Ore. -- From her home in King City, Linda Utter is keeping a close eye on the fires tearing through northern California’s wine country.

“I think it’s crazy,” she said.  “It’s insane.”

The devastation hits especially close to home.  Utter’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids live in the Santa Rosa area.  She says a neighbor alerted them to the fire early Monday morning.

“I’m personally so grateful for that man who woke them in the middle of the night,” she said.

Utter says her daughter-in-law and grandkids fled for safety while her son helped neighbors evacuate.

“He said he thought he ran six miles before he went back home and got his truck and took off to go meet his family,” Utter said.

The flames would eventually destroy Utter’s son’s home.

“Everything they had is gone,” she said.  “It’s unbelievable.”

Utter says the family is safe and physically okay.  That is all she can ask for.

“These guys are so resilient,” she said.  “They’ll land on their feet.”
