Woman killed in I-5 hit-and-run identified

I-5 Back open after pedestrian hit and killed

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A woman walking in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Skidmore overpass was hit and killed by a driver who fled the scene early Wednesday morning, according to Portland police.

Emergency crews were dispatched about 1:15 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck. They found 25-year-old Madison V. Ries dead of catastrophic injuries.

Officers contacted the person who made the initial 911 call and determined the driver had left the crash scene.

Police believe there was a white or gray pick-up truck involved with this crash or near the crash when it occurred. The truck likely has no damage but may have some minor front end or undercarriage damage, police say.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Officer Garret Dow at 503-823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov
