SEATTLE -- The Washington Huskies have moved up to No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The second-to-last rankings were released Tuesday night; Alabama was No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Clemson and the University of Washington.
The Crimson Tide, Tigers and Huskies all play conference championship games this weekend and presumably would be in good shape to make the playoff if they win. The final rankings and playoff pairings will be released Sunday.
Washington (11-1 overall, 8-1 Pac-12) prepares to face No. 9 Colorado (10-2, 8-1) in Friday's Pac-12 Championship. A win will give Washington a chance of making it into the four-team College Football Playoff for the national championship. FiveThirtyEight.com predicts UW has as a better than 90% chance of being selected to the the field with a win.
If Washington wins the Pac-12 title but is left out of the top 4 when the final rankings are revealed Dec. 4, they'll at least go to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 16 years.
Washington State (8-4, 7-2) will wait to find out which bowl game selects them. Likely destinations are the Alamo Bowl or the Foster Farms Bowl.
