Denver pup goes from shelter dog to service dog

A dog from the Denver Animal Shelter is about to make a big difference in the life of a veteran - as a fully-trained service dog.

DENVER - Although Shadow the shepherd-mix may have begun her life as a shelter dog, she now has a bright future as a service dog.

Through a partnership between the Denver Animal Shelter and the American Humane Society, Shadow, who now goes by Zoe, traveled to Washington, D.C. in March.

Since then, she's been working hard in the American Humane Society's service dog training program.

She goes new places like Starbucks and the auto body shop, and her teachers say she is a "top student" with "excellent manners."

Zoe is set to graduate from the program in July. Then she'll be placed with a veteran who has PTSD or TBI and needs her help.

Way to go, Zoe!
