Suspect crashes into police car, arrested after hiding under tarp

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A man was arrested late Saturday night after crashing into a patrol car, fleeing the scene and hiding under a tarp.

An officer responded to a report that people were dealing drugs at the Red Roof Inn, at 3828 Northeast 82nd Avenue, at 9:34 p.m. on Saturday night.

When the officer arrived, she saw two cars speeding away. The two cars stopped in a parking lot nearby, and when the officer tried to contact them, one of the drivers, 45-year-old William P. Henry, backed his car into the patrol car and drove away.

The officer was uninjured and called for additional officers. During a search of the area, Henry's vehicle was found but he wasn't inside it.

A K-9 team was able to find Henry, who was hiding under a tarp in the 5900 block of Northeast Failing Street. He was taken to the Multnomah County Jail and faces charges of reckless driving, attempt to elude by vehicle and first-degree criminal mischief.
