Person of interest sought after chase, officer-involved shooting in Salem

SALEM, Ore. – Oregon State Police troopers are asking for the public’s help as they search for a man involved in a shooting with a sheriff's deputy early Saturday morning.

OSP says Timothy J. George, 29, is a person of interest in the case.

A Polk County sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a driver in West Salem early Saturday morning, but the driver fled in a blue 1996 Honda Civic, according to police.

The chase continued into Northeast Salem and ended at the intersection of Oak Park Drive and Mooreland Avenue NE, where police said shots were fired. OSP did not immediately say who fired the shots.

No officers were hurt.

The suspect drove away in the Honda, but abandoned it nearby.

Police are asking for help locating George. He is 6 feet tall and 150 pounds with black hair and green eyes. He has a tattoo on his right forearm.

Anyone who sees George should call 911.
