Oregon man arrested for kidnapping ex-wife's boyfriend

LYONS, Ore. -- A 53-year-old Oregon man was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his ex-wife's boyfriend.

At 11 p.m. on Sunday, deputies met the suspect, Craig Waits, in his driveway and tried to take him into custody. He was tased after resisting arrest. Waits is currently being held at the Linn County Jail.

Waits faces charges for first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, strangulation, assaulting a public safety officer and resisting arrest.

Waits, who lives in Lyons, a town about 26 miles southeast of Salem, is accused of kidnapping the boyfriend of his ex-wife on Nov. 2.

Waits allegedly tied him to a weight bench, hit him with the butt of a rifle and put a plastic bag over his head. After several hours, he let the victim go and told him to leave the state.

The victim instead went to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Police say the ex-wife and victim were living with Waits at his home in Lyons.
