Suspect identified in stabbing on MAX platform

Woman stabbed on MAX platform in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – A young woman was rushed to a hospital after she was stabbed several times by a man she didn't know at a MAX train platform Friday afternoon, Portland police said.

Police took the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Christopher Eugene Woods, into custody and booked him into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of assault and menacing.

The woman, who is in her late teens or early 20s, is expected to survive, police said.

The stabbing occurred just before 4 p.m. along Northeast 11th Avenue near Holladay Street. 

"The suspect approached the victim, who was with two other young women, and after a brief exchange of words the suspect suddenly attacked the victim, stabbing her multiple times," police said in a news release.

Police recovered a knife at the scene.

MAX trains did not stop at the platform for about four hours.
