Man arrested after allegedly robbing Plaid Pantry store in Portland with a chainsaw

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A Portland man accused of robbing a Portland store with a chainsaw on Sunday night was arrested and booked into jail early Monday morning.

The suspect, 34-year-old Jonathan Lee Lathrop, was being held at the Multnomah County Jail on four counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree kidnapping.

Lathrop will be arraigned Monday in Multnomah County Court.

The robbery took place at about 11 p.m. Sunday night at the Plaid Pantry store at 5414 Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. Police were told someone robbed the store using a chainsaw and a knife. Nobody was injured during the robbery.

Officers located the suspect outside the store and took him into custody. They also seized a chainsaw.

Police also said a vehicle was on fire next to the store but it's unknown if the fire is related to the robbery or the suspect. Portland Fire & Rescue put out the fire and is investigating the incident.
